The fight for the establishment of Nigeria Students came into existence with the creation of the West African Students Union (WASU) under the leadership of Ladipo Solanke in 1925 and in 1945 University College Ibadan brought about the National Union of Nigerian Students (NUNS) which replaced WASU.
The long awaited election result of the National Association of Nigerian Student’s (NANS), has on Saturday been made know as the mantle of leadership of the union is to be bestowed on Comrade Lawal Umar Faruk an icon of Ahmadu Bello University, as the winner.
Com. Lawal is from the north-west zone which is in line with the zoning agreements of the union (NANS) as presidency is meant to rotate across the newly mapped out six (6) zones
