The Central Bank of Nigeria Governors and President Muhammad Buhari has on this day the 23rd November, 2022 unveiled the new Maria notes consisting of 200, 500 and 1000.
Recall that The Central Bank of Nigeria Governors (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has announced that the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), will on Wednesday unveil the newly designed naira notes.

The unveiling today, marks the very first time in 19 years, that Nigeria will be redesigning their naira notes.
Before the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting during a briefing at the ceremony, the governor of central bank of Nigeria debunked insinuations that the early unveiling of new notes is a means to target any Nigerian.

Still speaking he assured the public that the central bank of Nigeria will intensify the monitoring process and interrogate the process of withdrawal.
He concretely assured that there will be heavy restrictions on the volume of cash people can withdraw over the country, as he shall work with the EFCC to monitor the purpose of any heavy withdrawal or transactions.
He asserts that the redesigned naira notes can never be counterfeit, adding to forestall such occurrence he states that the central bank of Nigeria redesigns the notes every five to eight years

With regards to the new naria notes that was unveiled today, it’s circulation across banks and other financial institutions will start today. The Central Bank of Nigeria Governors announced that the CBN is now determined to make the giant of Africa (Nigeria) a cashless economy, as in other climes.
Present at the unveiling ceremony were Boss Mustapha, secretary to the government of the federation, and Folashade Yemi-Esan, head of civil service of the federation.
While giving speech at the unveiling event, President Buhari underscored the importance of redesigning the naira notes, saying it will help the country to address the issue of illicit financial flows, corruption, improve the economy and the value of the Nigerian currency and many more.
