Chicago Sky star Angel Reese recently concluded her rookie season in the WNBA and is making the most of her offseason.
On Sunday night, Reese, a Maryland native, attended the Ravens’ Sunday Night Football game against the Buffalo Bills in Baltimore, where she received the VIP treatment typically reserved for stars—sideline passes, a personalized jersey, and more.
Before the game, which the Ravens dominated with a 35-10 victory over Josh Allen and the Bills, Reese was welcomed by Baltimore cornerback Marlon Humphrey. During their introduction, Humphrey told Reese, “I watch women’s basketball because of you, I just want to say that,” as he shook her hand.
Along with fellow rookie Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese helped fuel a record-breaking viewership for the WNBA’s 2024 season. However, unlike Clark, Reese was unable to guide the Chicago Sky to the postseason, which ultimately led to the firing of head coach Teresa Witherspoon.
Reese’s response to Witherspoon’s dismissal gained widespread attention, as she expressed her deep sadness in a 183-word statement, saying the decision left her “lost for words.”
“I’m heartbroken. I’m literally lost for words knowing what this woman meant to me at such a crucial time in my life. She was the only person who believed in me. The one who trusted me. Many don’t even understand what it’s like to be a Black woman in sports when nobody believes in you,” Reese said regarding Witherspoon’s firing.
“You had a tough job. Despite all the challenges we faced this year, when things got tough, you always believed. I came to Chicago because of YOU. You were an unsung hero in my life, and we built a bond in such a short time that will last forever. I’ll never question why God brings people into my life and takes them away when I need them, but I trust there’s a reason for everything. You were the best reason and season. You didn’t deserve this, but I can’t thank you enough. I love you, Tspoon.”In her debut season in “The W,” Reese, the seventh overall choice in the 2024 WNBA Draft, averaged 13.6 points, 13.1 rebounds (a WNBA record), and 1.9 assists per game. She was also chosen to the WNBA All-Star team.
