TAMPA — Eagles’ standout right tackle Lane Johnson accompanied the team to Florida but will miss Sunday’s game against the Buccaneers.
The 34-year-old has been officially ruled out.
Johnson made significant progress during the week, but he wasn’t able to clear the NFL’s concussion protocol in time for Week 4.
In his absence, veteran Fred Johnson is expected to start. Fred performed well in relief last week against the Saints, and this will mark his first start since 2021.
Lane Johnson’s value to the Eagles is well known. Since 2016, their record with him is 73-38-1, but without him, it’s 11-22.
OT Lane Johnson (concussion), WR A.J. Brown (hamstring), WR DeVonta Smith (concussion), LB Devin White (personal), QB Tanner McKee, OG Trevor Keegan, and DL Byron Young have all been ruled out.
A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Devin White were declared inactive before Sunday’s game.
This leaves the Eagles without their starting right tackle and top two wide receivers — three of the team’s key players.
With Brown and Smith unavailable, the Eagles elevated veteran wide receivers Parris Campbell and John Ross from the practice squad. They will join Jahan Dotson and Johnny Wilson, making up the four active receivers for the game against the Buccaneers. For the first three weeks of the season, White has been a healthy scratch. Since he doesn’t play special teams, White hasn’t even dressed for a game this season. He was slated to start as the middle linebacker, but Nakobe Dean beat him out in training camp. It would be wise to keep an eye on that circumstance moving ahead.
