Solanke might be in the starting lineup for Spurs in their Week 1 match against Leicester.

Solanke could start for Spurs week 1 at Leicester

In a scenario familiar to Tottenham Hotspur fans this preseason, Spurs began their match against Bayern Munich without a recognized striker. This was due to returning striker Richarlison only rejoining training this week after recovering from spring surgery, and their new record signing, Dominic Solanke, just joining the club the day before. As a result, Dejan Kulusevski played in the No. 9 position, performing admirably, with Will Lankshear substituting in the second half.Tottenham Hotspur v FC Bayern Munich - Pre-Season Friendly

Looking ahead to Tottenham’s Premier League opener against Leicester City next week, there is optimism that Solanke could be ready to start, especially with Richarlison still regaining fitness. Head coach Ange Postecoglou expressed confidence in Solanke’s readiness, stating that, despite a minor knock in his last game for Bournemouth, Solanke has completed most of the preseason and should be available for selection.

Postecoglou highlighted Solanke’s attributes as a much-needed addition, particularly in the absence of Richarlison last season, and believes the striker will fit well with the team. He praised Solanke for overcoming setbacks in his career and is eager to see him contribute to the team.

Kulusevski has performed well as a stand-in striker during the preseason, scoring twice against Bayern Munich. However, with Solanke now on board and Richarlison nearing full fitness, Postecoglou indicated that Kulusevski would return to his more natural attacking midfield or wide role, where his strengths are better utilized.

The match against Bayern also saw a concerning moment when Lucas Bergvall required treatment after appearing to struggle with breathing. Postecoglou mentioned the possibility that Bergvall might have swallowed something, but it was nothing serious, and he recovered quickly.

Tottenham’s ongoing issues with conceding goals from set pieces were evident again, but Postecoglou noted the challenge of integrating a rotated defense. He emphasized the importance of being fully prepared for their Premier League opener against Leicester City on August 19, which will be televised on Sky Sports in the UK and USA Network in the United States.
