Ruben Amorim ‘not confident he can handle Man Utd job’ as questions over future

Arsenal star Paul Merson has claimed that Ruben Amorim may be reconsidering his decision to lead Manchester United.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Merson highlighted the significant issues Amorim faces at Old Trafford, with his club languishing in the Premier League’s bottom half despite Sunday night’s match against Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Merson insisted that the problems at United are not due to Amorim’s coaching abilities, but rather to the underlying problems in a club that “hasn’t seen glory in years,” according to the Mirror. “This man is 39 years of age. “I mean, some players are just finishing their football careers at 38,” he said.

He’s young and in management, very young. He performed well in Portugal and is now joining one of the world’s largest clubs, albeit not the finest team in the world.

“And he is finding it difficult. The pressure is on him. Someone has obviously told him that he needs to reverse on that and start blaming himself a little bit here because the players won’t have that, they won’t be sitting there saying that, but it will be difficult for him.

“I believe the manager will be sitting there deep down, thinking, ‘Should I have taken this job?’ He didn’t want to take it until the conclusion of the season, and I believe he’ll be sitting there now, pondering. ‘I’m not convinced I can do this job’.

“I don’t believe it’s only him. I believe any manager is looking at financial fair play standards and how much they are behind presently, as well as their league ranking, which is 13th. Bournemouth have better players. “When has that ever happened?”

United announced Antony’s loan move to Real Betis yesterday night, but Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho are still linked with moves elsewhere.
