REPORT: Miami Hurricanes’ Ward earns a Third Weekly Award amidst defeat of Florida

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — After a standout performance against rival Florida, Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward received his third weekly honor on Tuesday afternoon.

Ward was included in the Davey O’Brien Award’s Great 8 for Week One, in addition to being named ACC Player of the Week and Maxwell Player of the Week on the same day.

The 6-foot-2, 223-pound senior made history by becoming the first Miami quarterback to throw for over 300 yards and three touchdowns in his debut since at least 1979.

Ward completed 26 of 35 passes for 385 yards and three touchdowns, also contributing 33 rushing yards.

The West Columbia, Texas native played a key role in the Hurricanes amassing 529 total yards, marking the highest offensive output by a Miami team against an SEC opponent since 1981.

Last month, Ward was named to the preseason watch list for the 2024 Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award.

No. 12 Miami will begin its home schedule at 6 p.m. on Saturday, facing Florida A&M at Hard Rock Stadium.
