Aston Villa’s star left Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola in awe following the team’s 2-1 loss at Villa Park.
Against The Premier League champions on Saturday afternoon, Villa replicated their heroics from last December to win all three points, with Morgan Rogers taking center stage.
After helping Jhon Duran score the first goal and then scoring Villa’s incredible second goal, the former City player undoubtedly got one over his previous employers. Due to his tendency to turn away from midfielders and charge towards City’s crippling defensive line, Rogers was unstoppable.
Guardiola once had Rogers on the books, so he understands Villa’s valued talent all so well. The Spanish head coach acknowledged after the game that he’d love to have a player like Rogers available to him today but argued the timing wasn’t perfect when the offensive midfielder was at the club.
Guardiola responded, “Did you know what happened with some players, it was a team that won the treble,” when asked if he regretted letting Rogers go. Sometimes the timing or tempo is ideal for giving it a shot. Naturally, everyone is aware of Morgan’s excellence.
While hindsight is a great thing, the Sky Blues are currently experiencing their worst nightmare as a result of Rogers’ departure, which has cost them millions of dollars. Cole Palmer has emerged as one of the Premier League’s top players since leaving the Etihad Stadium, so Rogers isn’t the only one who has slipped through their fingers.
These players would undoubtedly be with us in that circumstance right now, but it’s always about the timing,” Guardiola continued. “I’m glad for Rogers because he’s a great man and he had a terrific season both last season and this one. He is a very good player.
