Chelsea has been in a bit of a slump lately, and Enzo Maresca’s team hasn’t been playing at their best, as evidenced by their recent results. The Blues have lost their last four Premier League games, with their most recent victory coming on December 15 at home against Brentford, 2-1.
In fact, they have lost to rivals Fulham at Stamford Bridge, drawn 0-0 at home against Everton, and then lost again, this time away to Ipswich Town, in their previous four top-flight games. They drew 1-1 away to Crystal Palace to start 2025.
It indicates that the Blues team may still be a long way from reaching Maresca’s desired level of performance, and they are rumored to be aiming for some significant reinforcements.
Chelsea wants to add a star.
The Blues are reportedly interested in Jamal Musiala, a standout for Bayern Munich. The German’s contract at the Allianz Arena is still very much up in the air, and several European powerhouses might be prepared to jump in.
If the German’s contract situation is not settled quickly, Chelsea is reportedly among the teams “keen on a potential move” for him, according to a report from Football Insider.
They will, however, face a fierce battle to win the race. Liverpool and Arsenal, two other Premier League teams, are also very interested in Manchester City. Another team that might try to get in is Real Madrid. Although Musiala’s exact cost has not been disclosed, Football Transfers estimates his value to be £90 million.
Why it would be wise to sign Musiala
Amazingly, Musiala would be returning to Stamford Bridge if Chelsea were to sign him. Before returning to Germany, he played for the Blues academy, making three appearances for Chelsea’s U18 team.
In retrospect, allowing the 21-year-old to leave West London looks like a mistake considering the player he has become. Under Vincent Kompany, Musiala is flourishing at Bayern this season and has emerged as one of the top football talents in the world.
He has 14 goals and six assists in 22 games in all competitions. In just 13 Bundesliga games, that includes an outstanding nine goals and three assists. He scored and contributed to Bayern’s 5-1 victory against RB Leipzig in their final Premier League match before Christmas.
