Manchester United wants to sign Branthwaite ahead of Liverpool.

Givemesport claims that despite interest from Manchester City and Liverpool, Manchester United is eager to convince Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite to join them.

Last summer, the Red Devils were strongly predicted to sign the England international, but they were hesitant to pay the Toffees £80 million. For the central defender, United was prepared to pay up to £50 million, including add-ons, but the Merseyside team turned down their transfer request.

Man United is still interested in Branthwaite, but they signed Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro to strengthen their backline. The 22-year-old is currently being pursued by Manchester City and Liverpool, but manager Ruben Amorim is keen to get the gifted player to Old Trafford in the end.

Potential agreement

During the most recent transfer window, United was after the Toffees star. Former manager Erik ten Hag had him as his top defensive target, but the high price prevented a transfer from happening. According to Transfermarkt, Yoro and de Ligt were ultimately acquired by the Red Devils for an upfront payment of approximately £93 million.

Despite this, he is still being linked to a move to Old Trafford, and with more center back departures possible, United may make a better transfer bid next summer. Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof may be freed on free transfers as they approach the final six months of their respective contracts.

Next June, Harry Maguire’s contract expires.

To contend for spots alongside the World Cup winner, the Evertonian would make an excellent addition. He enjoys clearing his lines and has a powerful aerial presence. He has impressed with his placement and is not afraid to make crunch tackles. United might make an offer that is nearly equal to the asking amount, but they might not pay it.

The highly regarded defender is also admired by Liverpool and Man City, but United may have an advantage over their bitter rivals because they previously reached a personal agreement with the player last summer. If Branthwaite had joined the team earlier this year, his weekly salary would have been between £150,000 and £160,000.
