Man United want to sign Frenkie de Jong for free next year.

Manchester United are allegedly focused on closing a deal for long-term target Frenkie de Jong on a free transfer.

The Red Devils infamously had an offer accepted for De Jong in 2022 but the Dutch international rejected to trade the Camp Nou for Old Trafford.

Under Erik ten Hag, De Jong was always a player the club considered signing, but no deal was ever completed.

Since then, De Jong has suffered numerous injuries and has struggled to establish himself as a regular member of Barcelona’s first team.

He is still earning a large salary, which is extremely troublesome for the Spanish club’s cost structure and capacity to attract fresh players like Marcus Rashford.

According to Spanish media, United may take advantage of the situation and sign the Dutch star on a free transfer next year.

Joan Laporta and Deco have concluded that it is best for everyone if the former Ajax Amsterdam and Willem II player leaves Camp Nou soon, as he is not a part of Hans-Dieter Flick’s plans and plays a clearly secondary role.”

The difficulty is that they can’t ask for much money because his contract expires in 2026, so they’ll have to settle for €45 million at best.

In a perfect scenario, the Catalans would get De Jong to sign a new contract and then attempt to sell him for an increased price, but, “De Jong doesn’t want to sign anything, and his goal is to wait for his contract to expire, so he can depart with a free transfer underAccording to reports, United has contacted Frenkie’s agent and offered him a €15 million signing bonus if he leaves Barça for free. Ruben Amorim is also a fan of the player and sees him as a “very useful reinforcement” in the club’s midfield.
