After missing the first few weeks of the 2024 NFL season due to a calf injury, quarterback Russell Wilson made his debut with the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 7 during “Sunday Night Football.” His first game in black and gold went exceptionally well, as the Steelers triumphed over Davante Adams and the revamped New York Jets with a score of 37-15. Pittsburgh now holds a record of 5-2 and is in the top spot in the AFC North.
As the Nov. 5 trade deadline approaches, the Steelers appear to be a well-rounded team, particularly with Wilson joining the lineup. However, there is a significant weakness in their offense that they might address in the coming weeks. Outside of George Pickens, the Pittsburgh wide receiving corps has been below par; in fact, Pickens is the only wide receiver on the roster with more than 11 catches so far in 2024. In his first season with the Jets, Williams hasn’t had the opportunities he might have hoped for. Despite playing in all seven games, the former Clemson standout has managed just 11 catches for 160 yards. With the addition of Adams alongside 2022 Offensive Rookie of the Year Garrett Wilson, Williams’ playing time could diminish if he stays in New York.
Throughout his eight-year NFL career, Williams has amassed 320 catches for 4,966 yards and 31 touchdowns, including two seasons with over 1,000 yards and one with ten touchdowns. He was drafted seventh overall by the Los Angeles Chargers in the 2017 NFL draft and spent seven seasons in California before being released after the 2023 season, despite having a year left on his three-year
