Jaxson Hayes has chosen to exercise his $2.4 million player option with the Los Angeles Lakers for the 2024-25 season, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic. This move follows D’Angelo Russell’s decision to do the same.

Hayes, a 24-year-old center, joined the Lakers last summer as a free agent after spending his first four NBA seasons with the New Orleans Pelicans. In the past season, he averaged 4.3 points and 3.0 rebounds over 70 games, starting in 5 of them and playing an average of 12.5 minutes per game.

Originally selected eighth overall in the 2019 NBA draft by the Atlanta Hawks, Hayes was traded to the Pelicans along with Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Didi Louzada, and a heavily protected 2020 first-round pick in exchange for De’Andre Hunter and Solomon Hill’s draft rights.
