Sancho was not involved, despite having returned from his Borussia Dortmund loan period, participating in preseason, and hearing Ten Hag mention a repaired relationship.

The England international had been dealing with an ear infection, but the Dutchman disclosed following the game that he was well enough to play and was simply left off the roster.

At a press conference held after the game, Ten Hag stated, “We need squad depth first because this is the season of survival of the fittest.” I’m limited to 20 locations.

“Jadon wasn’t fully well last week due to an ear infection.” We liked other players, but he could play. When we have to rotate during the season, that will change.

The player may experience frustration at times. However, each player will get a chance.

Ten Hag started Bruno Fernandes up front and Amad Diallo and Marcus Rashford on the wings in Sancho’s absence.

Alejandro Garnacho and Zirkzee both came off the bench, and Antony was another forward option among the substitutes who did not see action.
