Grimsby Town confirm talk with potential winger

According to BBC Humberside Sport writer Matt Dean on X, Grimsby Town and Breiðablik winger Jason Daði Svanþórsson are still in negotiations.
As they get ready for the upcoming League Two season, Grimsby Town is interested in attracting the attacker to England. Under the leadership of the former Crewe Alexandra manager David Artell, they were able to stay up in the previous campaign.

The 24-year-old Icelandic international has earned five caps thus far in his career. Since joining his current club in 2021, he has been registered with them; however, he is rumoured to be moving to Blundell Park this summer.

The Mariners’ manager Artell has stated that they are in talks with the player about perhaps switching to the Football League during this window, according to reporter Dean on X. The Mariners have identified him as a possible transfer target.

Grimsby Town in winger talks

Svanðórsson might be viewed by Grimsby Town as a boost to their offensive unit. If necessary, he can also play on either wing or down the middle as an attacking midfielder.

The Mariners intend to compete further up the table the following season because they were too near to the drop zone for comfort the previous one. Sutton United and Forest Green Rovers were ultimately relegated to the National League.

If Artell decided to join, Svaníórsson would arrive as an unknown quantity and provide him another choice to choose from.

At age 21, he moved to Breiðablik after beginning his work at Afturelding. The population of the town is almost half that of Grimsby, at slightly under 40,000.

Since relocating to the Kópavogsvöllur stadium, the Mosfellsbaer native has made 127 appearances across all competitions, contributing an outstanding 38 goals and 26 assists.
