Manchester United lost 3-2 to Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford on Saturday, their second straight Premier League setback
Nikola Milenkovic scored after just two minutes of play, giving the Red Devils the worst conceivable start. The Serbian scored from a corner with a powerful header.
Rasmus Hojlund gave United the equalizer just before halftime. Andre Onana’s stunning error in the 47th minute of the second half undid all of the hard work.
The visitors took the lead thanks to Morgan Gibbs-White. Chris Wood quickly put them ahead 3-1. His header was not intercepted by Lisandro Martinez, Matthijs de Ligt, or Onana.
With a strong strike, Bruno Fernandes cut the gap, but United was unable to equalize.
The game had a number of subpar performances. Milenkovic outmuscled Martinez in the lead-up to Forest’s first goal, and Onana had a day to forget.
But Diogo Dalot’s performance as a left wing-back especially disappointed.
Portuguese has repeatedly failed to make an impression in the role, and yesterday was no exception. Dalot attempted nine crosses but was unable to deliver any of them.
He only had one long ball (1/3) and three fouls, yet he lost possession an incredible 21 times.
Along with Onana and Martinez, Dalot was among the worst performances. The Manchester Evening News gave him a 4/10 rating because he didn’t provide an offensive threat.
Given his performance yesterday, manager Ruben Amorim must bench him.
It could be time to give Dalot a break as he has obviously struggled at the left wing-back position.
Now that Leny Yoro is healthy enough to start in the back, Noussair Mazraoui ought to play there in the upcoming games.
