Chelsea is putting the pieces together to sign a Premier League midfielder ranked even higher than Moises Caicedo, and TEAMtalk can confirm the club’s plans for Robert Sanchez and the goalkeeping department.
Chelsea is constantly looking for the next best player to join their squad, and the club hopes to sign another midfielder to help them win titles in the coming seasons.
The Blues aren’t just hunting for strikers right now; we can reveal that possibilities in the center of the park have also been considered this month.
According to sources, Enzo Maresca’s side is very interested in Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba and is keeping a close eye on him for a summer transfer.
According to sources, Chelsea contacted Brighton earlier in January to inquire about Baleba’s availability and transfer valuation.
Chelsea has little chance of signing Balela before the February 3 deadline without significantly overpaying for his services.
However, this is not beyond the Chelsea board, which has demonstrated a willingness to spend large sums when focused on a specific goal.
The Blues board had already done this with Brighton, when they approved Moises Caciedo’s British record £115 million (add-ons included) deal.
Baleba would expect a huge sum, and Brighton place a high value on the 21-year-old, with insiders believing he has more to give offensively and all-around than the more defensively inclined Caicedo.
Chelsea are not alone in their interest in Baleba, with considerable interest growing in Italy, as well as throughout Europe.
Baleba’s contract runs until the summer of 2028, with a club option for an additional year included in the conditions.
That puts Brighton in a very strong position, and as we have seen before, they are not easily swayed from the high valuations they place on their players.
