Following a fantastic performance in his team’s 2-1 victory over Chelsea in the middle of the week, Super Eagles and Fulham defender Calvin Chinedu Bassey was named to Troy Deeney’s BBC Matchday 18 Team of the Week.
At Stamford Bridge, Bassey made a forceful block at the conclusion of the first half to keep Cole Palmer from scoring a second goal. He also had a chance to score but was stopped by Robert Sanchez of Chelsea. Marco Silva’s team secured three points with late goals from Rodrigo Muniz and Harry Wilson.
Former Watford striker Deeney joined the BBC as a commentator and is now responsible for selecting the BBC Team of the Week.
The former Watford striker chose Matz Sels of Nottingham Forests in goal, who produced vital saves as the Reds defeated Ange Postecoglu’s Tottenham Hotspur 1-0. Nuno Espirito’s team is now fourth on the league after winning four straight games.
Following an outstanding performance in his team’s 1-0 victory over Paul Onuachu’s Southampton, Aaron Wan Bissaka of West Ham United assumes the right-back position.
Deeney’s center-back combination consists of Calvin Bassey of Fulham and Murillo Dos Santos of Nottingham Forest, who were pinned down as their teams defeated Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur. The left-back position is claimed by Pervis Estupinán.
Once more solid. Bassey would have had a clean sheet if it weren’t for a fantastic goal from Cole Palmer, and Murillo maintained one. “They were both fantastic and helped their teams win,” Deeney wrote in his colu
