Oscar Rios, a quarterback in the class of 2026 from Downey, California, retracted his months-long pledge to Purdue and has already received offers from ten or more schools.
Oscar Rios decided to de-commit from Purdue this week, putting one of the best quarterbacks in the West back on the market.
The gifted signal caller from Downey, California, first committed to the Boilermakers in mid-June, but things have altered since offensive coordinator Graham Harrell was fired this past Monday.
Rios, who is ranked as the 23rd best quarterback in the country for the 2026 class, now turns his attention to reevaluating his recruitment.
Week 6 of the 2024 college football season is shaping up to be a pivotal one, not just on the field but in recruiting as well. Auburn’s flip of Top247 quarterback Deuce Knight from Notre Dame marks a significant recruiting win for head coach Hugh Freeze. This commitment is especially impactful given that Knight is the highest-rated quarterback to join Auburn since Bo Nix in 2019. The decision may also ripple into Auburn’s recruitment efforts, particularly with some five-star prospects in the 2025 class, positioning the Tigers to capitalize on this momentum.
Georgia and Florida State also have high stakes this weekend in recruiting. For Georgia, the Bulldogs are reportedly in the mix to flip two key Florida Gators commitments, signaling their aggressive approach to stay at the top of recruiting battles. Meanwhile, Florida State is facing challenges of its own, as several of its commitments are said to be “wavering” following the team’s rough 1-4 start. This could open the door for other programs to make a push for those recruits, adding even more intrigue to an already packed weekend of college football.
Ole Miss and Clemson also feature in this week’s developments, though the biggest recruiting storylines will likely play out in the SEC, with the Auburn and Georgia moves making the most noise. This week, three 2026 Top247 four-stars were reclassified into the 2025 class, none of which were larger than Louisiana defensive lineman Jahkeem Stewart, who is hyper-athletic and stands 6 feet 6 and 270 pounds.
