Kent State faces a major quarterback issue in their game against Penn State on Saturday, September 21. Just two plays in, quarterback Devin Kargman was hit hard by Penn State’s defensive end Dani Dennis-Sutton, causing a fumble that was recovered by his teammate. Kargman, visibly in pain, had to be carted off the field after a few minutes. While the extent of his injury is unclear, he was seen holding his hip. According to the Big Ten Network, Kargman was transported to Mt. Nittany Medical Center near Beaver Stadium.
With starter Devin Kargman sidelined and backup Tommy Ulatowski dealing with a finger injury, Kent State turned to third-string QB JD Sherrod, who also went down later in the game. The Golden Flashes were forced to lean on their running game from that point. Before the Penn State matchup, Kargman had completed 45-of-81 passes for 432 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions across three games. The team is now 0-3, with a tough 0-4 looming. In his first season as a full-time starter, Kent State hopes for Kargman’s quick recovery.
