Brad Stevens Denies Head Coaching Rumors at Indiana Basketball

Brad Stevens, general manager and president of basketball operations for the Boston Celtics, has informed Jeff Goodman of The Field of 68 that he is not a contender for the position of men’s basketball coach for the Indiana Hoosiers.

Stevens told Goodman and The Field of 68, “I love the people I get to work with every day and I really appreciate being a Celtic.”

Since it was revealed that current head coach Mike Woodson would be leaving at the end of this season, Stevens has been a primary target for Indiana.

After finishing 19-14 overall and 10-10 in Big Ten Conference play the previous season, Woodson missed out on the NCAA Tournament this year. He has a 58-35 overall record from his first three seasons at his alma mater, Indiana.

Indiana is currently 6-8 in Big Ten play and has a 15-10 overall record for the season. Indiana is now on the bubble to qualify for the NCAA tournament, but it has been up and down, to put it mildly.

Brad Stevens, a native of Zionsville, Indiana, guided the Butler Bulldogs to consecutive trips to the national championship game in 2010 and 2011, but he left the program to take a position as head coach of the Boston Celtics. After that, he relocated to the front office and was appointed president of basketball operations for the Celtics.

For the next two months, Indiana will continue to look for a new men’s basketball coach; there is no urgency, as the team still has seven regular season games and at least one Big.
