Manchester United receives government backing for their Old Trafford revitalization project.

AP, Manchester, England The British government has endorsed Manchester United’s initiative to revitalize the neighborhood surrounding its Old Trafford stadium.

In a statement, British Treasury Chief Rachel Reeves praised the Old Trafford project as “a shining example” of the government’s economic growth initiatives.

A world-class new venue is at the center of the idea, which may be achieved by either building a new stadium with space for 100,000 spectators or renovating the existing stadium to accommodate 87,000.

In a statement, United CEO Omar Berrada welcomed the government’s support, calling the project a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.” “The delivery of a world-class stadium can be the catalyst for major regeneration of an area of Greater Manchester which requires new investment to thrive again,” Berrada said, adding that although United would be responsible for the stadium’s development, public bodies’ support would be required to unlock the wider regeneration opportunity, which would include improved housing and transport infrastructure around Old Trafford.
