In a recent episode of KG Certified, former NBA Celtics Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce suggested that Zion Williamson, a former No. 1 overall pick, could benefit from a change of scenery due to his injury-plagued season. Williamson has only played in ten games for the Pelicans, who have one of the worst records in the NBA.
According to ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, Zion Williamson would prefer to play for a larger market team, such as Los Angeles or New York, due to his desire for marketability. This comes after the Pelicans suspended Williamson for violating team policies.
It is unclear whether that future will take place in New Orleans. The former Duke standout signed a five-year contract extension with the team in 2022, but it included wording that relieved the Pelicans of certain financial duties, as well as weight and availability stipulations that were not fulfilled. Williamson appeared in a career-high 70 games last season, but missed the playoffs due to a hamstring ailment.
