Liverpool gives up on pursuing Marc Guehi.

According to reports, Liverpool has given up on signing Marc Guehi; Chelsea and Newcastle United are still interested in the Crystal Palace defender.
Caught Offside claims that Liverpool has dropped out of the running for Marc Guehi, with no explanation given. After Chelsea and Newcastle United’s long-standing interest, the Crystal Palace defender is in high demand, albeit a January transfer looks doubtful.

Despite Newcastle’s relentless pursuit of the center-back, Crystal Palace made a significant effort during the summer transfer window to hang onto star defender Marc Guehi. The Eagles are unlikely to give in six months after turning down four reported proposals, as the Magpies are still anticipated to make a play for the England international.

They will make a decision regarding Guehi’s future next summer, therefore he is essential to their plans for the rest of the season. Guehi’s contract issue may compel Palace to strike a deal with a top suitor, increasing the likelihood that he will leave after the season.

Chelsea is also interested in re-signing the center-back they traded to Palace, and the Magpies are anticipated to return with an offer at that point. Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile were contacted, leaving the Blues without defenders. Enzo Maresca will likely require another center-back for the foreseeable future.

Guehi’s desire to return would reportedly cost the Blues a deal, though, since they have become a club wary of their salary bill. Palace would probably demand an unheard-of sum of money if they attempt to make a bid in January, which will deter the majority of his suitors.

Is Marc Guehi out of the running for Liverpool?
Guehi was one of Liverpool’s long-term targets to replace Virgil van Dijk, whose future is still up in the air with six months left on his contract. The Merseysiders may have thus considered signing the 24-year-old in the summer of next year. They are no longer in the running for the Palace star, according to the report, though it’s yet unclear why.
