The 27-year-old Rashford was benched for their encounter against Newcastle United, which Amorim’s team defeated 2-0 at Old Trafford, after missing four consecutive games.
Marcus Rashford of Manchester United appears despondent following the game.
Marcus Rashford, a forward for Manchester United, will be absent due to illness on Sunday, January 5, 2025, when the team plays leaders Liverpool at Anfield, according to head coach Ruben Amorim.
After missing four consecutive games, the 27-year-old Rashford was benched for Monday’s match against Newcastle United, which Amorim’s team defeated 2-0 at Old Trafford.
But against Newcastle, Rashford didn’t play a single minute.
United is now in 14th place with 22 points from 19 games, their lowest position to close a calendar year since they were 15th in 1989. They have lost five of their past six league games.
“The same thing is true; he is currently unwell. Prior to the match, Amorim informed reporters, “He is not training.”
Two days before to Rashford declaring he was “ready for a new challenge” after playing for United since he was seven years old, Amorim first benched Rashford for the team’s 2-1 derby victory against Manchester City on December 15.
Since making his senior debut for the team in 2016, Rashford has scored 138 goals in 426 games, helping them win the League Cup thrice, two FA Cups, and the Europa League.
“This is like a typical player, and then I make a choice. We’ll see in the future. It’s the same, then. Amorim stated, “I believe he will be absent this week.”
