The first half of the season was tumultuous for Verstappen and Red Bull, both on and off the track, with power struggles behind the scenes by team manager Christian Horner and advisor Helmut Marko, who has the backing of Verstappen’s entourage.
Verstappen’s father Jos called for Horner to leave the team, but Horner resisted, and a ceasefire was reached at the conclusion of the year as Red Bull concentrated on enhancing its on-track results, which ultimately led to Verstappen’s fourth drivers’ championship.
Verstappen claims that after discussions with Mercedes CEO Toto Wolff, he currently sees no need to leave his current Red Bull team, even if other important personnel have now chosen to depart, including designer Adrian Newey and sporting director Jonathan Wheatley.
In Formula 1, it is extremely rare for someone to be released from their contract. Unlike football, where you sign a five-year contract then depart a year later, this is different. Verstappen told the Dutch channel Viaplay, “And that’s not really the intention.”
“You never know what might occur in the next year or two years, but you also have no control over that, so I don’t give it much thought. Look, I’m really content with my current situation. Another championship has been won by us. Of course, the car needs to be improved, but it makes perfect sense, in my opinion. I feel comfortable being myself with the crew.

He responded, “The big teams are always interesting, but on the other hand, I’m also in a very big team,” when asked if Wolff’s pitch was just not compelling enough to persuade him. With them, I’ve had a great deal of success. It simply feels like a second family as well.
