Leyton Orient confirms deal with Charlton Athletic star

Leyton Orient has announced the signing of Diallang Jaiyesimi after the forward’s contract Charlton Athletic expired.

Predominately a winger, he joins The O’s on an initial two-year contract becoming the club’s third signing this summer after the arrivals of Sonny Perkins and Charlie Kelman who both signed on loan.

“I’ve admired the club for a long time. It’s really good to be here and I’m looking forward to it. I’m ready to go right now if we could, but we’ve got a long pre-season ahead of us, and I’m ready to get back to work.

“I’ve worked with Richie before at Swindon. I feel like those were my best seasons, and that he got the best out of me. With me coming in, we both know what to expect from each other. We had a really successful time together, and got promotion into League One together. From working under him before, I know that his tactics are really good. He knows how to get the best out of players.”

Who Is Diallang Jaiyesimi?

The winger started his youth career at Dulwich Hamlet, before moving to Norwich City‘s youth setup. His first senior loan spell was in the 17/18 season where he spent a season on loan with Grimsby Town where he played 35 times for The Mariners.

Upon returning to Norwich he was sent out on a sixth-month loan deal to Yeovil Town, where he would play 11 times scoring twice.

For the 19/20 season, he joined up with Swindon Town, joining up with now Leyton Orient Head Coach Richie Wellens. The deal would then be made permanent for the following season.

In the winter window of 2021, he moved to Charlton Athletic. He would then have two loan spells away from the club with AFC Wimbledon and St Johnstone before being released upon his contract expiry with The Addicks.

Is This Good Business From Leyton Orient?

Currently contracted to Orient, winger Jordan Graham is returning from a long-term injury and Ollie O’Neill joined from Fulham in the January window meaning there are only two natural wide men. Dan Agyei and Sonny Perkins could play out wide but these aren’t seen as their natural positions, so it was a position that the club needed to add some strength in depth too.

The winger has played under Head Coach Richie Wellens before and does come with League One pedigree having played 73 games at League One level for various clubs with 7 goals and 8 assists in that time, so he will know what is expected in a Wellens team which will help him integrate into the squad quicker which could be seen as a benefit.

The winger is also capable of playing as a striker, looking at the 21/22 season where he got consistent game time in League One, he was in the 88% percentile for successful dribbles completed per 90 as well as being in the 90% percentile for winning the ball in the final 3rd.

He is a tricky player when 1 on 1 with the full-back capable of using both feet as well as using his body to shield the ball from defenders. The ability to use both feet also allows him to play on either the right or left-hand side which always gives the defending team something to think about.
