£12 million A Chelsea player consents to join Borussia Dortmund.

German rumors claim that Chelsea defender Renato Veiga has agreed to join Borussia Dortmund.

Veiga spent £12 million to join Chelsea from Basel, a Swiss team, last summer, but under Enzo Maresca, he hasn’t been able to establish himself as a regular member of the squad.

The 21-year-old has only played 177 minutes in the Premier League so far this season, spending most of his time in the Conference League.

Viega, a Portugal international, may now be on the move after playing a complete game at left-back in Chelsea’s 5-0 victory against Morecambe in the FA Cup third round on Saturday.

Veiga has signed a contract with Dortmund, while the Bundesliga team is still negotiating a deal with Chelsea this month, according to Sky Germany.

Dortmund wants to get a loan with a buyout option, the report continues.

Maresca stated this week that he was “happy” to have Veiga in his squad and made no mention of the Portuguese defender transferring out of Stamford Bridge in January.

He has formerly played as an attacking midfielder, holding midfielder, full-back, and center-back. Says Maresca in October.

He’s already filled in at four or five different positions. During one of my first news conferences, I stated that the versatility of Chelsea’s players is the reason I truly like and adore the team, Maresca added.

In my opinion, it is better for the team and the players in particular if they are able to play a variety of roles. I don’t think it’s sufficient to play just one position these days. You should study more positions.

“Malo [Gusto] and Renato are playing a variety of positions and doing well.”
