Young, the Hawks win six in a row after defeating the Lakers in overtime.

After a James basket with 1:55 left, the Lakers appeared to be in control.

On Friday night, the Atlanta Hawks defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 134-132 in overtime to record their sixth straight win.

De’Andre Hunter scored 26 points off the bench, while Trae Young led the Hawks with 31 points and 20 assists. Anthony Davis contributed 38 points, while LeBron James recorded a triple-double with 39 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists for the Lakers.

Both teams were evenly matched throughout the entire match, making it an exciting match at State Farm Arena. The lone exception was when Jalen Johnson was called for two quick fouls to start the third quarter (his fourth of the game), which allowed the Lakers to take a double-digit lead at the start.

The Hawks’ comeback, though, was nearly instantaneous, and an 8-0 run reduced the margin once more. In a match that had 17 ties and 32 lead changes overall, the sides continued to trade punches after this.

After a James basket with 1:55 left, the Lakers appeared to be in control, leading by four points. Given the number of ties and lead changes in this game, four points might not seem like much. For most of the night, it was far more security than either team had!

Dyson Daniels’ three in the corner, which was made possible by the Young-Hunter pick-and-roll, was the first of the Hawks’ crucial plays in the fourth quarter and overtime.

Daniels, who has occasionally been hesitant to take outside shots yesterday night, made a huge three when it was required.

Daniels goes up to the inbounds immediately after three, forcing Davis to take action. An illegal screen stops Daniels from reaching the ball, and the Lakers are penalized for an offensive foul (the video doesn’t do it credit, but Daniels’ pressure made something out of nothing).
