Jayson Tatum is prioritizing the pursuit of an NBA championship with the Celtics over his quest for his first MVP award.
Jayson Tatum shared his ambitions in the NBA this season during a media interview. He emphasized that the Celtics boast an incredible roster, with multiple players consistently delivering impressive performances. Therefore, he is prioritizing another NBA championship, rather than pursuing the MVP title for the first time in his career.
“We have an exceptionally talented team with many skilled players. I likely won’t have the same statistics as some of the other players, and I’m completely okay with that, particularly considering what we accomplished in June last year. The ultimate goal is for us to win, not for me to earn MVP.”
Jayson Tatum is now putting up averages of 28.8 points, 9.3 rebounds, 5.7 assists, 1.2 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game while shooting 46.3% from the field, 37.2% from beyond the arc, and 80.3% from the charity stripe. He has been playing outstanding basketball, contributing to the Celtics’ impressive 22-6 record in the Eastern Conference, which puts them in position as the second seed.
This season, Tatum and the Celtics have demonstrated their championship potential, positioning themselves as strong contenders for the title come June. However, they will face challenges in advancing from the Eastern Conference, as they will likely need to contend with at least one of the New York Knicks, Cleveland Cavaliers, or Milwaukee Bucks.
The Celtics have a strong roster full of guys who can step up and perform every night, despite some injury concerns, especially with Kristaps Porzingis. The Celtics must be regarded as one of the teams to defeat going into the 2025 NBA playoffs with this strong lineup.
Jayson Tatum Is Increasing His MVP Totals
It’s possible that Jayson Tatum isn’t focused on taking home MVP. However, he makes a compelling argument for it. Given the fantastic performance the Celtics have had this season and the numbers he is putting up. The MVP award is typically determined by a player’s impact on his team’s success as well as his own performances.
