Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan has advised Newcastle United to stand firm in their negotiations regarding Dan Ashworth. The Toon hierarchy has maintained a tough stance, demanding £20 million to release Ashworth from his contract prematurely, despite pressure from Manchester United to lower the fee.
Ashworth expressed his desire to leave back in February, and Newcastle responded by placing him on gardening leave until January 2026, frustrating both Manchester United and minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe of Ineos. Ratcliffe is reportedly planning a summer overhaul at Old Trafford, viewing Ashworth as a key component.
Newcastle’s approach has drawn criticism and public complaints from Ratcliffe, but Jordan supports their position, suggesting he would similarly rebuff Manchester United if in their shoes. He emphasized that Newcastle should hold their ground and insist on the agreed price or accept the consequences of not doing so.
