City returns to the top four after thrashing Ipswich, while Brighton defeats Manchester United.

Manchester City’s Phil Foden scored twice and set up another goal in an excellent first-half performance as they defeated Ipswich Town 6-0 at Portman Road on Sunday to reclaim their place in the Premier League top four.

The comprehensive victory took City to 38 points and fourth place on goal difference, ahead of Newcastle United, but they remain 12 points behind leaders Liverpool, who have a game in hand, and six behind Arsenal and Nottingham Forest.

Jeremy Doku scored the fourth with a deflected shot just after halftime, setting up Erling Haaland to score, and substitute James McAtee sealed the victory in the 69th minute with a looping header.

Manchester United were also defeated 3-1 at home to Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday, with visiting winger Yankuba Minteh scoring one goal and creating another, while the hosts were not helped by goalkeeper Andre Onana’s error.

Brighton’s Kaoru Mitoma and Georginio Rutter both scored in the second half, although Joao Pedro’s goal was called out by VAR due to a foul in the build-up.

Bruno Fernandes scored a penalty for United to tie the game at 1-1 at halftime, but after Brighton gained the lead for the second time, Onana slid a straightforward gather from a low cross into the area, allowing Rutter to tap in the loose ball.

Brighton climbs to ninth place with 34 points, four points behind the top four. United ranks 13th with 26 points from 22 games.
